This year Massabesic Middle School offered a variety of intramural sports.  These activities were held after school from mid-February until mid-April.  Students voted on what activities would be offered during their physical education classes.  The activities for intramurals were volleyball, with 125 participants forming 12 teams,  handball, with  85 students forming 7 teams, basketball, with a total of 80 students forming 8 boys teams and 4 girls teams, and floor hockey with 75 students signed up.
Schedules were developed with the teams playing each other over a period of several weeks.  Based on the results throughout league play, playoffs were held in volleyball, each division of basketball, and team handball.  Floor hockey met some nights for just grade 8 and the others for grade 7.  Late busses were available at the end of each intramural session.
Students did a great job working with teams during the various sport sessions.  Many staff stayed and supervised and officiated  so that play was fair and safe.  Lots of socializing went on between games and many reported through an end of season survey that they enjoyed intramural sports and met new people through participating.  Mr. McDonough, Mr. Bush, Mr. Lee, Mr. Scott, Mr. Grantham, Mr. Parent, Mr. Carbone, Mr. Allaire, Mr. Lewia, Mrs. Beal, and Mrs. Lands would like to tha
nk all of the athletes who joined us for their (mostly) good sportsmanship, cooperation, and excellent effort throughout this first intramural season in our beautiful new gymnasium and cafe!
